  • Residents sound alarm over historic site's future
    One of the last remnants of Hazlet's history is in the process of being developed, a matter that concerns residents. The land known as the Stone Road Meadows spans over 50 acres, but the 4.59-acre VanMater property at the corner of Stone Road and Poole Avenue is under development by Devino and Jackiewicz LLC, the owner of the historic Van Mater farmstead.
  • Pool club may not be in summer forecast
    Members won't be frolicking in the sun at the Strathmore Bath and Tennis Club in Aberdeen this summer, because the club likely won't be open. "No, we won't be able to open the club this summer," said Frank Ward, who is in the process of purchasing the pool club.
  • Temple Shalom hosts memorial to AIDS victims
    ABERDEEN - The world-renowned tapestry dedicated to the memory of AIDS victims has made its way to town. As part of a special weekend devoted to social action, sections of the internationally celebrated AIDS Memorial Quilt, a 54-ton, handmade tapestry that is a memorial to more than 90,000 individuals lost to AIDS, was on view at Temple Shalom May 1 to May 4.
  • Holmdel BOE reappoints Luccarelli, Hartnett HOLMDEL - Board of Education members re-elected the current board president and vice president at the April 30 meeting. Frank Luccarelli and Mary Hartnett were re-elected to the positions of board president and board vice president, respectively.

  • County mum on closing youth facility The Monmouth County freeholders refused Thursday night to discuss the contents of a report from an advisory board on the possible closure of the county's Youth Detention Center, despite growing calls to allow for public participation in deciding the fate of the center.
  • Racetrack tradition on life support The world was a different place the first time I walked into Monmouth Park. The grand dame of New Jersey racing was only half as old as she is today, not that this necessarily made her half as grand.
  • High-rise builder lowering his site Metro Homes and the city have reached agreement to give the builder time to work out its financial problems on the partly built beachfront Esperanza high-rise. Metro would come back with new money and build what is expected to be a less extravagant structure.
  • How did Navy's jet cockpits land in his driveway? While federal investigators try to figure out how some demilitarized fighter jet cockpits ended up at 80 Apple Farm Road, residents are wondering why it took authorities years to arrive.
