| Go Green for Cleaner Air |

It’s springtime! As my Mother would always say “open the doors
and windows and let some fresh air inside!” She was responsible for chilly spring blasts
circling the dining room and drapes billowing in the breeze on the
clothesline. But afterward the house would
feel and smell fresher, not with the artificial perfume of room
fresheners, but a crisp sensation that awoke the senses. What she was actually doing was exchanging indoor
air with the fresh air of outdoors that is an amazing 10-40 times lower in
toxic chemical levels according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
The presence of green plants simply makes us feel better. Each and every day we greet people in our greenhouse that need to see and smell the plants and flowers to improve their frame of mind. We are fortunate to work in such an uplifting and healthy environment, however you too can improve the quality of the air in your home or office by placing a few plants in various locations. The benefits are numerous - they are lovely to look at, promote a soothing effect, improve productivity, reduce stress, and most important, they are beneficial to our health and to the well being of the earth. Through a study of more than 20 years sponsored by NASA, it is determined that indoor plants are able to extract pollutants from the air through their foliage and roots. This study is everything we learned (and forgot) in high school science classes. It concludes that by placing certain green and flowering plants in a room the level of toxins are removed by 80% within 24 hours! Living things help other living things. So get into your greens! Introduce more house plants into your home and perhaps keep a plant on your desk at work. Here is a list of the plants most effective in removing chemicals from the air: Bamboo Palm, Chinese Evergreen, English Ivy, Gerbera Daisy, Dracaena Varieties, Snake Plant, Pathos, Pot Mum, Peace Lily and Spider Plant.
